BOGOLUBOVO
BOGOLUBOVO, 2008
The project for 50 free standing houses is located in the countryside 40 kilometers west of Kiev, Ukraine. The site comprises of a shallow northwest oriented slope with a natural well and a small river on two sides. On the east side the site is bordering a nature reserve with beautifull birch trees. The commission consists of the realisation of 50 freestanding dwellings including an hotel, a restaurant, sports facilities, retail and administration facilities. The development is to have a resort type nature with long and short stay facilities. The idea is that the place becomes an exceptional environment that becomes a destiny in itself. The design research focusses on creating a varied arangement for the free standing houses, that makes every house unique and profits from the slope and surrounding natural beauty in the best way. A design proposal that seems to have the most potential is one in which each house has its own plot surrounded by accessible paths on all sides. This way the quality of the individuality of a free standing house in the countryside is emphasized to the maximum. Close to the small river, the leisure facilities are projected as a separate enclave. Extensive volumetric research has been carried out focussing on the nature of the roof and whether or not the volume of the house should be in parts or as a whole. The houses are differently oriented to keep as much diversity as possible within the single free standing housing typology.
