KURZ AREAL
SCHWäBISCH HALL, 2012
Kurz Center
Located between the city center of Schwäbisch Hall, Hessental and Dachswald, the site has significant characteristics to set the base for future development. Currently it is filled with few recognizable post-industrial buildings and various low quality additions that formerly served old industry. The project deals in a respectful way with the sites constrains and existing identity, while looking for new spatial and programmatic opportunities that will give the site a new character, and that will influence the adjoining neighborhoods, city and region. The rich history of collaboration between industry and community in the region of Schwäbisch Hall, as well as a strong focus on sustainable energy concepts find its reflection in the program of the Kurz Center. The design proposal creates a centrally located, high quality public space, that connects the heart of the site with the main access street, and that becomes a binding element for existing and new structures. Various commercial, cultural, and art programs frame and fill the space to support its liveliness.
